more rain/wind late friday

1/11/2024

Our next storm in the DC area will arrive late Friday. While it will not be as intense as Tuesday’s storm, it will still bring rain and wind impacts.
WIND: The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Anne Arundel from 7PM Friday through 5AM Saturday. Wind gusts from the southeast are expected to reach 45-50 mph, with the peak between 9PM-1AM. While this is lower than the 50-55 mph gusts from Tuesday’s event, this combined with the saturated ground may still be enough to bring down a few more trees, leading to isolated power outages. Even after the storm clears out and sunshine returns Saturday, it will remain quite windy with 40 mph gusts area-wide during the day.
RAIN: Rain will arrive by late in the afternoon or early evening. There will periods of moderate to heavy rain during the evening and overnight hours, with rainfall totals around one inch. A Flood Watch is in effect. With all of the recent rain, flooding of creeks, streams, and roads may result.
TIDAL FLOODING: Minor tidal flooding is likely for coastal locations due to the onshore winds, with moderate coastal flooding possible for Annapolis. The storm surge is expected to be around 2 feet as opposed to the 3-4 feet from Tuesday’s storm, so the flooding will not be as significant.
