significant rain & wind sunday into monday

12/15/2023

I hope those in the DC area have enjoyed the sunshine over the past few days. While that will generally hold into Saturday, another strong storm system will impact the region Sunday into Monday. This storm will be more of a coastal storm/nor’easter, and will bring a drenching rain and strong winds.
Rain looks to arrive by late Sunday morning or afternoon, with the heaviest rain Sunday night. Steady rain may clear out by late Monday morning or afternoon. Rainfall totals look to be around 2”. Wind gusts may reach 45 mph Sunday night and on Monday.
Temperatures look to reach the low 50s Sunday and Monday. However, this storm will pull in a blast of Canadian air on the backside, and we will not get out of the 30s on Tuesday. Gusty winds will likely continue. There is also some potential for a weaker, secondary system to swing through Monday night into Tuesday.
