chilly conditions into the weekend

4/5/2024

This has been an interesting start to April in Southern MD and along the East Coast. Here, we had at least one thunderstorm for the first 3 days, followed by winter weather (graupel) on the 4th day. While no tornadoes have been confirmed in Maryland from Wednesday, an EF-1 tornado as wide as a football field was confirmed by the National Weather Service just across the Potomac River in Virginia. This was just 12 miles away from Point Lookout. And now this Friday morning, a rare 4.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in New Jersey, which was felt in portions of New York, Pennsylvania, and northern Maryland.
In Southern MD, we are still under the influence of a Canadian airmass. High temperatures will be in the mid 50s again with somewhat windy conditions remaining. There is a slight chance for a shower or two this afternoon, although coverage should be less than what we saw on Thursday.
Temperatures tonight will dip into the mid 30s with wind chills getting into the upper 20s. The weather pattern will not change much for Saturday. Expect another day with partial sunshine, temperatures reaching the mid 50s, and gusty northwest winds making it feel cooler. We will have some slightly improvement for Sunday with temperatures topping out closer to 60°.
For the Eclipse on Monday, it does look like we may have some clouds around in the afternoon, but overcast skies are not expected. High temperatures will be in the low to mid 60s. It looks like we will finally make it back to 70° on Tuesday!
