heat and humidity return on independence day

7/3/2024

After a brief break with cooler temperatures and lower humidity, we are returning to a hotter and more humid airmass in Southern MD. Chances for a few showers and thunderstorms will also return.
For Independence Day, temperatures will climb into the lower to middle 90s in the afternoon. The National Weather Service has posted a Heat Advisory for Charles County. With the humidity, it will feel as though it is up to 105°. For Calvert and St. Mary’s, it will feel as though it is around 95-100°. The daytime hours look generally dry. However, isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop in the evening, so those with outdoor plans will want to keep an eye on the sky. Any thunderstorms that develop may put down torrential downpours and gusty winds.
Friday and Saturday will bring similar conditions. Temperatures will top out in the mid 90s with chances for late-day showers and thunderstorms. The chance for storms looks to be a bit higher on Saturday. A frontal boundary will pass through early Sunday, which will lead to slightly cooler temperatures and a drop in humidity. Thunderstorm chances will also be lower.
