light accumulating snow likely fri night

2/15/2024

As of Thursday afternoon, the latest computer models are indicating that a light accumulating snowfall event will occur at the start of the President’s Day weekend for the area. Snow looks to arrive around midnight Friday night and clear out around sunrise Saturday. Rain may mix in at the onset for southern Calvert and much of St. Mary’s, which would cut down on snowfall accumulations in these areas.

There is still some question as to the storm’s exact track, which would affect these forecast amounts and whether any rain mixes in. The actual low pressure system will pass by to our south Friday night, tracking from west to east. Whether it tracks along the VA/NC border or further north along a track from Roanoke to Richmond will mean the difference between 2-3” of snow for all of St. Mary’s or no snowfall accumulation. This map represents what I am thinking is the most likely outcome right now.
