significant rainstorm still expected for sunday

An intense storm system is still set to plow through Sunday into Sunday night. This has been indicated in every major computer model for many days. During the afternoon, there will likely be a continuous line of rain from Canada, down through the U.S. East Coast, and stretching down to Mexico. This is shown in the computer model graphic below.
For Southern MD, the bulk of the rain will be from the afternoon through the rest of the day. Tropical-like downpours along with thunderstorms will be possible at times. Due to the powerful atmospheric dynamics, there is a low end threat for some showers and thunderstorms to produce high winds. Just to our south in eastern portions of VA, there will even be a tornado threat. It will still become rather windy outside of any intense showers.
I expect rainfall totals around 2 to 3 inches for our area by sunrise Monday. The National Weather Service has posted a Flood Watch for the immediate DC metro and Charles. This rain will be more beneficial for Calvert and St. Mary's, where we currently are in a Moderate Drought.
