turning drier with seasonable temperatures

1/28/2024

Following the heavy rain from this weekend’s storm, I have now measured nearly 14 inches of rain over the past 7 weeks! The interesting thing is that when December started, Calvert and St. Mary’s were officially in a Moderate Drought. This shows what can happen with a super-charged El Nino episode in the Pacific. We will at least get to dry out some this week.
Mist and light drizzle is continuing in some areas, and a few additional light showers will be possible through Sunday evening as part of wraparound moisture from the coastal storm. Low temperatures will be in the upper 30s.
There may be some partial sunshine on Monday, but otherwise chilly temperatures will remain along with a noticeable northwest wind at 15-25 mph. High temperatures will be in the mid 40s. Tuesday will have high temperatures in the mid 40s again with some sunshine and lighter winds.
A fast-moving storm system will slide through Tuesday night into Wednesday. This may bring a few showers, but rainfall amounts look light with the core of the storm passing to our south. There may be a few snowflakes mixed in Wednesday morning, with the best chance over northern portions of Charles and Calvert. Thursday is looking dry with sunshine and high temperatures back to 50°.
