turning warmer with lighter winds

3/11/2024

The Pax River base reported 27 consecutive hours between 2PM Sunday and 5PM Monday of wind gusts reaching or exceeding 30 mph, and at times wind gusts reached 40-50 mph. While this was an unusually long duration event, the first half of March has historically been a particularly windy time of year in this area.
The tight pressure gradient responsible for the strong winds to start this week is now starting to relax. For this Monday night, expect temperatures will drop down into the upper 30s with wind chills in the upper 20s. With full sunshine during the day, temperatures Tuesday will spike into the middle 60s in the afternoon. Winds will be from the west at 10-15 mph. High temperatures will be in the mid 60s again on Wednesday with sun and clouds.
Thursday, we will head up into the lower 70s. Warm temperatures will continue Friday, although there will be a chance of rain by Friday afternoon or evening. At this point, much of the day on Saturday looks dry with cooler temperatures.
